These sourdough cherry danishes are made with a flaky sourdough puff pastry, sweet cream cheese filling, and your favorite cherry pie filling. These are easy to make, beautifully golden when baked, and the perfect sweet pastry for breakfast, brunch, or Christmas morning. Every bite is flaky, buttery, and packed with sweet-tart cherry flavor. They are simple, delicious, and completely irresistible.
Fold the corners of each square in towards the center.
Mix the cream cheese and sugar together in a small bowl.
In the middle of each piece of dough, spread the fruit filling or the cream cheese filling, or use some of both in the center of each danish.
Mix 1 egg and 1 Tablespoon of water together to make an egg wash. Brush on the top of the pastry with a pastry brush. This step is optional, but will give the dough a glossy golden brown look once baked.
Place on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
Mix up the powdered sugar and milk in a small bowl.
Drizzle over freshly the baked danish pastries.
You can refrigerate these in an airtight container for up to a week or freeze them in a freezer- safe container for up to six months.
Notes
You can buy your puff pastry at the store, or you can make my delicious homemade sourdough puff pastry here.Try different filling ideas like apple or blueberry pie filling. I especially like to make cherry cheese danishes with the optional cream cheese filling and the cherry pie filling together! In my opinion, these flavors make the perfect combination.
