The Best Brown Gravy Recipe

Equipment
- 1 Saucepan
- 1 measuring cups and spoons
- 1 whisk
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoon butter or fat drippings reserved from cooking
- 3 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 2 cups pan juices from cooking meat, or beef broth
- 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter, then whisk in the flour.
- Cook for 1 to 2 minutes, until the flour is browned.
- While whisking, gradually pour in the pan juices and cook, whisking, for 5 to 8 minutes, or until the gravy has thickened.
- Taste and add salt and pepper as needed. Serve immediately.
Notes
- When adding the broth, whisk continuously to prevent lumps and keep the gravy smooth.
- If your gravy is too thin, mix 1 Tbl of flour into ¼ cup of water in a small jar. Add to the gravy and cook until thickened.
