Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Easy – all you have to do is chop up a bunch of ingredients and let them infuse in apple cider vinegar for about a month.  If you don’t have some of the ingredients, just make it with what you have, it’s a very flexible fire cider recipe.
  • Great way to boost your immune system – I am not a doctor and this is not medical advice, but I can tell you what our ancestors have done for generations, and what has worked for my family.  This fire cider has helped to keep us well many times, and I’m sure it will do the same for you as well.

Ingredients

  • Oranges
  • Lemons
  • Jalapeños– I prefer to use my organically grown jalapenos straight from the garden.  You can also order them from Azure Standard.
  • Onions- learn how to grow your own onions here
  • Garlic- I grow my own garlic, but you can use whatever kind of garlic you have.
  • Raw ginger root
  • Fresh rosemary
  • Cinnamon Sticks
  • Horseradish root – you might think this is added for flavor and spice only, but horseradish is one of the best immune boosters you’ll find.  I don’t really like horseradish, so I grow it just for making fire cider.
  • Turmeric root – I add a little bit of ground turmeric if I don’t have access to turmeric root.
  • Raw Apple Cider Vinegar – you can make your own apple cider vinegar from apple scraps.  Find my full tutorial here.
  • Honey or maple syrup, optional

FAQ

Fire cider is a folk remedy that has been known to boost the immune system, improve digestion, ease congestion, and reduce inflammation in the body.  It has helped my family avoid things like sore throats because a key component of fire cider is garlic, and of course, all the citrus ingredients add a lot of vitamin C and other medicinal value as well.

The main ingredients are oranges, lemons, ginger, garlic, onions, rosemary, horseradish, hot peppers, and raw apple cider vinegar.  You can make fire cider without having all of the ingredients, or you can add additional ingredients like black peppercorns as well.

No, you do not need to peel ginger for making fire cider.  The ginger will infuse into the apple cider vinegar just fine without being peeled.

It takes fire cider about 4-6 weeks to ferment.  You can ferment it for a shorter or longer time, depending on your needs and taste preferences.
